NBCRNA CPC Core Modules

What are CPC Core Modules?

CPC Core Modules are a continuing education requirement that focus on evidence-based knowledge and new information in the field. They count towards your CRNA Class A Credits. You are required to complete four CPC core modules during each four-year cycle.

While CPC modules will no longer be required in the future, if you have not completed the NBCRNA core modules in your current four-year cycle, you may still need to fulfill these. To check, log on to the NBCRNA website and review your individual credit requirements.

CRNA Core Modules FAQs

UPDATE 12/13/2023: The NBCRNA sent a letter to all CRNAs regarding upcoming changes to the CPC-program. The email states:

“[W]e (the NBCRNA) are making enhancements to the Continued Professional Certification (CPC) Program in 2024. Although changes are planned for the future, CRNAs are required to fulfill their current cycle requirements to renew their credential before they are enrolled in the enhanced CPC Program.”

Due to this email, it is essential that you log in to the NBCRNA website, review your individual CPC requirements, and determine your CE needs. If you are in the first four year cycle of the CPC program (2020-2024 or 2021-2025) you will likely still need the modules. If you have already done the modules and completed your first cycle of credits, it appears they will no longer be a requirement in the future.

No. The core modules are NOT intended as a CPCA test prep. The core modules are a separate and distinct part of the NBCRNAs new CPC program but have no direct correlation to the assessment.
Per the NBCRNA,
“Although they may be helpful, Core Modules were not designed as a CPC Assessment (CPCA) preparation tool.” (source https://www.nbcrna.com/continued-certification/core-modules)

No. If you have used our site in the past, it is important to note, the modules are presented differently than our regular article/test format. Materials are in video and interactive scrolling format.

The NBCRNA has created FOUR content areas to be covered by the Core Modules:

  • Airway Management
  • Applied Clinical Pharmacology
  • Human Physiology and Pathophysiology
  • Anesthesia Equipment, Technology, and Safety

Yes. As with all CE awarded by the AANA, each module has an expiration date by which you must complete the materials. This allows for materials to be updated and remain current. Please be assured, if you purchase the CPC Core modules with us, we want you to get your credit!

The current expiration dates are as follows:

  • Airway 7/14/2026
    (3 Class A CE Credits)
  • Anesthesia Technology 3/31/2027
    (2  Class A CE Credits)
  • Pharmacology 5/31/2027
    (6 Class A CE Credits)
  • Physiology & Pathophysiology 5/31/2027
    (9 Class A CE Credits)

We wanted to create the best module experience for our colleagues. We have done this by focusing on up-to-date information with clinical applicability. In addition, we have streamlined the process so it takes less time to complete the modules without compromising information or treating you like a student doing a board review all over again.

The definitive source for information regarding the core modules is the NBCRNA website.

There are two things to consider regarding this question:

1) CE Credit is awarded by the AANA, based on approximate length of time to complete, so each CE hour should take about an hour to complete.

2) The NBCRNA mandates ten (10) questions per hour of CE awarded for the modules, regardless of the vendor. So other modules with more credit hours attached will necessarily take longer to complete.

Transcripts are available for the pharmacology and physiology modules. In the Physiology Module, the transcript exists within the materials. In the Pharmacology material they are separate PDF documents.  They are not meant to be replacements for any audio/visual portions of each module.
